About
I am a doctoral candidate at the Australian National University at the Department of Archaeology and Natural History in the School of Culture, History and Language at the College of Asia and the Pacific. My current research focuses on documenting the newly-discovered rock art found in Cambodia and exploring the nature of rock art sites and religious landscapes in the region. My larger research interests are in the archaeology of Southeast Asia, and in particular the rock art of Southeast Asia. During my career I have participated in archaeological projects in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia.
I finished my MA at the Centre for Global Archaeology Research at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang, Malaysia. My thesis was on the rock art at Gua Tambun in Perak, one of the largest prehistoric rock painting sites in Peninsular Malaysia. The site has been largely unstudied since its initial discovery in 1959, and so my research entailed producing a detailed inventory of the rock art at the site, examining the pigments used for the rock art and working out the relative chronology of the paintings.
As part of my research interests I run two websites: the Southeast Asian Archaeology newsblog (http://www.SoutheastAsianArchaeology.com) keeps track of archaeological news in the region and has been running since 2006. My most recent web project is the Archaeograph (http://www.archaeograph.com), a blog about archaeological photography.
